Energetic Arms
(Kudos to Flavia/Melissa for the write-up!)
Use your arms in Sacred Dance to trace and direct energy around you. Here are some of the
movements we use: See also "Graceful Arms and Hands" by Rhea
Connecting to the Earth
- Join hands in a delta (thumbs together, index fingers together, creating an inverted triangle) at your first chakra, feel your connection to the earth and pull the Energy she gives you up into your heart as you raise the delta to your heart chakra.
Connecting to the Sky
- reach to the sky, feel your connection to the sky, join your palms above your head in prayer, pull the energy down into your heart (end with prayer/Namaste hands)
Prayer to Delta Transformation
- bring hands together above head in a prayer to the sky à pull Energy down to top of head à split hands to trace sides of head à palms together in prayer position à turn to delta position at the heart à release palms and give the Energy forward/outward as a blessing to the earth
Delta to Prayer Transformation
- Connect to the earth as above à delta position à pull the Energy up to your heart chakra à convert it into prayer/Namaste position à split hands and trace sides of head/face upward à join palms overhead toward the sky releasing the energy in a prayer to the sky
Waving Tree Branch
- root into the ground with feet, as you inhale, feel the Energy rise up through the trunk of your body à into your heart à extending out one arm as the branch of a tree
Bird Wings / Wings of love
- As you inhale, raise your arms as a great bird opens its wings, through the shoulders, then elbows, then wrists, until they almost meet overhead, then release, letting gravity take over as you exhale. Realize that your wings are made of love.
Cleansing
- one arm points out diagonally to the side/down; the other hand reaches across to that outstretched hand and pulls good Energy up the arm to the shoulder à around the head/face à then pushes anything you no longer need back down the arm and out over the fingertips
Throwing Flowers
- one hand cupped at heart, the other fingertips pull flowers/Energy from the palm (thumb and 3rd finger together), and lift them up diagonally to the side/sky, then sprinkle them like blessings with hand turned upward
Spreading Seeds
- one hand cupped at the heart, the other fingertips pull seeds/Energy from the palm (thumb and 3rd finger together), and then arm stretches out forward/side/down, sprinkling the seeds on the ground, leading with the wrist. Hand shimmies are very appropriate for this move but not required.
Give Energy from the Heart
- bring hands to heart, rotate palms up, and present the energy out forward toward the recipient/world.
Stop Unfavorable Energy
- push one hand out in "stop" position to push back anything you don’t want in your personal space.
Pulling Taffy/Thread/Energy
- thumbs and 3rd fingers together lightly, pull hands/arms apart (horizontally, vertically, diagonally; long or short)
Consolidating Energy
- push air/Energy together with palms into a ball/packet (vertical, horizontal, diagonal)
Indian Gratitude Prayer
- "I saw what you gave me, and I am grateful" With thumb and 3rd finger together, Trace one hand in a circle around the 6th chakra à bring it down to the heart and Give Energy from the Heart with that hand. The other hand can rest cupped beneath the heart. This is a good example of combining moves that have specific interpretations into a cohesive "sentence of movement".
Decorating your personal space
- Feel free to place blessings like flowers or stars around and upon your body. You can also trace ribbons or snakes of energy as you see fit (snakes are healers, BTW, that’s why they’re on the Physician’s traditional symbol, but only use them if you have an affinity for them)
Cosmic Egg
- Explore the zone that exists around your body at the distance of your outstretched arm à middle finger. Play with it. Decorate it with windows, doors, patterns, designs, spirals, leafy hand motions. Curl up safe in this shell or crack it open and step outside into the great Bliss. It is the work of but a moment to rebuild it!
